FAQ

Tracking

What does Comic Rank track?

We track visitors to webcomic sites. We then look, think and work out how many different people read your webcomic while filtering out all the bots and random visitors. Then, just for good measure, we promote your webcomic on our site.

You know what comics I read!?

No. Privacy is something we take seriously here. While theoretically possible to do so we never link comics to guests, only tally numbers of guests to comics. Privacy

We may, in the future, offer things like recomended comics based on what you read. But these services will only ever be opt-in.

How accurate is the reader count?

Unfortunately, of course, we can't get a perfect count of readers of your webcomic. People who are counted are readers, no doubt about that, but there are many who can't be counted. For example those with high privacy settings on their browser.

We do, however, analyse a sample of failed readers frequently to get a feel for how many people aren't being counted. The reader count you all see will have an estimated percentage added on to it which we believe makes it accurate +/- 5%.

Why doesn't my reader count match my other logs?

Because other sources of data are not designed to measure readers and are mostly based on unique views. Read More

What if my comic has mirrors on other sites?

Comic Rank has a system called "comic places" to track your webcomic's readers over website mirrors. Just add each mirror site into the Edit Info page of your comic to generate a different code (button) for each website.

This way, you get the collective amount of readers your comic has, and can view which of your sites has the most readers, through your comic Stats page.

If my readers visit my site from an RSS feed are
they counted as RSS readers or site readers?

Comic Rank takes the first button that the reader used that day to determine which path they are filed under. So in this case the reader will correctly be counted as RSS.

Why do I have so few readers?

The most common reason is that you haven't waited long enough. Reader counts can take 2 weeks or more to become fully accurate.

If you've waited long enough then make sure your Comic Rank image codes are properly in place on every page of your webcomic's site. Click the "Get Codes" link for your comic through the User Panel to get your image codes.

The last possibility is that you don't update frequently enough, or your readers don't know you update frequently. To be classed as a reader your viewers must visit your site at least once every 9 days.

If you still think something's ary then get in touch and we'll look into it. Contact form

What size/format does my banner have to be?

All banners must be 468px by 60px and can be jpg, png or gif

What about 18+ comics?

We're not going to kick you out because you swear occasionally but a line does have to be drawn somewhere. If your comic is too adult then you may not make it on to the leaderboards, but we'll still track your readers for you. if it's even worse then you may not make it on to Comic Rank at all. See the Terms & Conditions for more info.

Abuse

It looks like someone is flooding/spoofing the system, what can I do?

Tell us! Through the Contact form. We track abuse in a number of ways but will look into any quarrels you may have.

Someone registered my webcomic, how can I claim it back?

Get in contact through the Contact form. If you can prove your ownership of the webcomic site in question then we'll hand over the comic to you.
